OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
From June 9 to 10 St. Petersburg — Russia — was the venue of action for the second round of the MotoSurf World Cup 2017. Riders and spectators couldn’t expect a better spot. The heart of this magnificent Russian city brought the racing course close to the renown Peter and Paul Fortress.
Frejus winner Jakub Kornfeil did not compete this time in Russia, however other two podium finishers of the French round were ready to fight. Lukáš Záhorský from the MSR Engines Racing Team and Jetsurf Slovakia’s Sebastian Kubinec pushed hard in their heats. Záhorský topped both of his rounds while Kubinec finished 2nd in his group. Like a storm was riding the World Cup rookie Jan Drkoš who won his heats group equaled on points with Kubinec.
Petr Vencovský withJetsurf USA’s was the big surprise of the weekend. Top 5 contender in France, Petr took his performance to another level in Russia and left a strong impression in the qualifying, posting the fastest laptime. FOX as he is known in the paddock, kept it up also in the heats and ruled his heat group. His fight with Michal Lošťák was just fantastic but Vencovský managed to win.
The finals came up and many riders were targeting the victory. Lukáš Záhorský managed to be the strongest on the Neva River and took his first 2017 victory after many breathtaking overtaking manoeuvres with Sebastian Kubinec who eventually lost the head to head battle. Petr FOX Vencovský made it on the podium for Jetsurf USA in 3rd and stood on the MotoSurf WorldCup podium for the very first time in his career.
Girls did an amazing job on such a difficult race. Defending 2016 champion Aneta Šacherová dominated the qualifying ahead of Alita Rivas returning to top. Martina Lukscheider went her best weekend so far taking 3rd place in the qualifying. Victory contender Martina Bravencová entered the weekend with bad luck being disqualified from the qualifying after missing one of the buoeys. What a tough call for the heat for Symbio+ Jetsurf rider.
At the end of the day
Martina was the happiest girl in the paddock. Despite starting last due to qualifying, she managed to win both her heats and so the finals. Overall victory went to their hands and she won her premiere round in jetsurfing career so far. She was a true hero of the weekend! MSR Engines Racing Team’s Aneta Šacherová came 2nd to collect some important points to the championship. We could see a real happiness in eyes of Mexican rider Ale Rivas representing Jetsurf USA team. It has been almost a year since Alita climbed on the podium for the last time. She just underlined a successful weekend for Jetsurf USA Team.
The action will continue in the United Kingdom on 7-9 July
